A Reclining, Height-Adjustable Care Bathtub With a Walk-Through Side Door
The AVERO Motion is a powered care bathtub made by BEKA Hospitec for Handicare. It is built so that one caregiver can bathe a resident. The bather enters through a large side door with a safety lock and a flat sill, from a low entry height of 19.3 inches. The tub then rises 7.9 inches to a working height of up to 39.8 inches, so the caregiver can work without bending low. It reclines electrically to 23°, and a 98-litre foot-zone prefill lets the water start rising around the bather’s feet before they settle back. The contoured shape suits sliding transfers from a wheelchair, and the tub also works with stand aids, mobile floor lifts and a freestanding carrier frame.
The tub body is glass-fibre reinforced plastic, with chromed brass grips at the rim and a seat with a hygienic opening. It is operated from an 11-button control panel with three temperature displays, and water comes from a thermostat mixer with a tub spout. The spout and hand shower have double scalding protection, and filling stops if the water goes above 42°C (107.6°F). The tub supports bathers up to 485 lbs (220 kg). Equipment Specialist Insight: Plan the room before ordering. The tub is 69.3″ long (75.1″ reclined) and 33.9″ wide, weighs 386 lbs empty, and needs ½″ hot and cold water supplies, a 50 mm drain and a 110–120 V, 60 Hz circuit. The mains connection must be made by a qualified electrician, and plumbing by a licensed plumber. Measure every doorway and hallway on the way in, and leave room beside the door for wheelchair or lift transfers. Decide on options at the same time, since most are fitted at the factory. Plan for an annual safety check by an authorized technician.
