Match the balloon fill to the size: a 5cc balloon takes about 10 mL of sterile water (never more than 15). 16 Fr is the orange one on the color chart. It’s silicone-coated latex, which slides in more smoothly than bare latex and is DEHP- and BPA-free — but the base material is still natural latex, so it’s off the table if there’s a latex allergy (choose an all-silicone Foley instead). An indwelling Foley is normally placed by a clinician; make sure you also have the sterile water, a syringe, and a drainage bag to go with it.
