Side Rails & Assist Bars

Bed & Mattress Extenders
Add length for a taller user. The bed extender lengthens the frame; the matching mattress extender fills the added space — you'll want both, and the mattress extender needs to match your bed's width.

Equipment Specialist Insight: A few of these are worth more than their price suggests. The SureLock one-step braking is the quiet favourite — locking four casters individually gets old fast, and one step does the whole job. The backup battery matters more than people expect on a bed like this: if the power drops while the deck is raised, you'll want to be able to lower it, and that's exactly when you don't want to be hunting for the manual release. The under-bed light is a small thing that earns its keep at 3am, giving just enough floor-level glow to see by without switching on the overhead. On rails, match to the need rather than the catalogue: assist bars give a grip for sitting up and standing, quarter-length rails add a defined edge, and the embedded-control rails put the bed controls right where the hands already are. On the extenders, remember they work in pairs — the bed extender adds length to the frame, and the mattress extender fills that new space, so order both, and match the mattress extender to your bed's width (36 or 42 inches). Do I need both a bed extender and a mattress extender?
Yes. The bed extender lengthens the frame by 4″ or 8″, and the mattress extender fills that added space. Match them — a 4″ bed extender with a 4″ mattress extender — and choose the mattress extender in your bed's width, 36″ or 42″.
Which rail or assist bar should I choose?
Assist bars give a grip for sitting up and standing. Quarter-length side rails add a hand-hold plus a defined edge, with 2-position, 3-position, or extended-height versions. The embedded-control rails put the bed controls into the rail itself. Rail pads add cushioning.
Accessories are designed for the Med-Mizer RETRACT-V; confirm compatibility with your bed configuration before ordering.
