A Manual Standing Transfer Aid With a Swing-Away Seat for Short Transfers
The Span America F450T is a manual, non-powered standing transfer aid for users who can pull themselves up to standing, bear weight while standing, and lower themselves back to a seat. The user places their feet on the non-slip footplate, rests their shins against the contoured shin pads, and pulls up using the 20-inch-wide handlebar. Once they are standing, the padded seat swings into place behind them so they can sit while a caregiver wheels the aid to a bed, chair, commode or toilet, then swings away again for the user to stand and sit down at the new spot. That makes it a practical alternative to a wheelchair for short transfers, such as to the toilet.
The seat height adjusts from 26 to 33.5 inches. The base width adjusts from 27.7 inches closed to 32 inches open inside the legs to fit around chairs and commodes, and the front of the base is just 3.6 inches high for underbed clearance. Locking rear casters hold it in place during sit-to-stand, and hooks on the frame accept an optional support belt. The aid is rated to 450 lbs, weighs 78 lbs, and assembles with the tools provided.
