A Self-Adjusting Air and Foam Mattress That Needs No Pump or Power
The Span America PressureGuard CFT is a 7-inch non-powered mattress that combines air and foam. Inside a foam shell, interconnected air cylinders are linked to elasticized reservoirs using Span America’s Constant Force Technology. As the user moves or shifts position, the reservoirs take up the displaced air and the pressure across the cylinders re-balances on its own, so the surface adjusts to the user without a pump, control unit, power cord or noise. There is nothing to set or program.
On top is a 2-inch Geo-Matt layer of more than 800 individually responsive foam cells, in head, torso and foot zones, and the foot end has a tapered heel slope designed to shift load from the heels onto the lower legs and calves. Two-part Safety Edge bolsters run along each side. The cover is a fluid-proof, cleanable vapor barrier, and the mattress is latex-free. Standard sizes, 32 and 35 inches wide in 75 to 84-inch lengths, are rated to 500 lbs. Bariatric sizes, 42, 48 and 54 inches wide in 80 and 84-inch lengths, use more cylinders and reservoirs and are rated to 750 lbs.

Equipment Specialist Insight: Choose the width by the bed deck and the user’s weight: the 32″ and 35″ standard sizes are rated to 500 lbs, and the 42″, 48″ and 54″ bariatric sizes to 750 lbs. Bariatric sizes need a bariatric bed frame of the same width, and the bed’s own safe working load must cover the user plus the mattress. Because the CFT adjusts itself, there is nothing to plug in or program. Plan to top up the air with the Air System Renewal Kit at least every six months. Clean the cover with neutral soap suds or an approved cleaning agent, and avoid bleach.
