View full detailsPatient lifts help caregivers safely move individuals with limited mobility between beds, wheelchairs, chairs, commodes, and bathing areas while reducing physical strain for both the patient and the caregiver. Also known as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer lifts, these devices are essential equipment for home care and assisted-living settings. This collection includes full-body electric floor lifts, sling-free transfer lifts, waterproof bathing transfer models, and bariatric high-capacity lifts designed to make everyday transfers smoother, safer, and more dignified.
Safe patient handling isn't just about convenience β it's a proven way to prevent injury. Patient handling is the single greatest musculoskeletal-injury risk factor for caregivers, and the World Health Organization estimates that up to 72% of nurses worldwide experience chronic low back pain tied to manual lifting and transferring. A properly rated lift moves that load off the caregiver's back and onto the equipment, where it belongs.
Lifts in this collection are built with weight capacities ranging from 250 lb up through bariatric models rated well beyond 500 lb, to suit a wide range of patient needs. The Freedom Aqua Sling-Free Transfer Lift features a waterproof design suitable for shower and bath transfers, while the BestLift PL350CT and PL182 provide full-body electric lifting for everyday transfers around the home β and the PL350CT folds into a compact, portable build for car travel and homes with limited storage.
How to Choose a Patient Lift
- Weight capacity: Choose a lift rated comfortably above the user's weight rather than right at the limit. Standard lifts typically cover up to 400 lb; for users above that range, choose a bariatric patient lift rated for 500 lb or more. Operating near a lift's maximum adds wear and reduces your safety margin.
- Transfer location: Consider where transfers happen most β bedside, bathroom, or vehicle. Waterproof models are built for wet bathing areas, while folding lifts travel and store easily.
- Sling vs. sling-free: Sling-free transfer lifts speed up quick sit-to-stand moves, while full-body sling lifts offer maximum support for users who cannot bear weight. Pick the design that fits the caregiving routine and the user's comfort.
- Power type: Electric lifts use a rechargeable battery and a hand pendant for effortless, smooth transfers β ideal for caregivers doing several lifts a day or those with their own back or shoulder limitations. Manual hydraulic lifts cost less and need no charging, but require physical effort on every transfer.
- Portability: If you transport the lift or store it between uses, look for a folding frame that fits in a car trunk.
Did You Know?
- The healthcare and social-assistance sector has one of the highest work-related injury rates of any U.S. industry, driven largely by manual patient handling. (CDC/NIOSH)
- Musculoskeletal disorders account for roughly 52% of all days-away-from-work cases for nursing assistants β most of them preventable with safe-handling equipment. (CDC/NIOSH)
- Work-related musculoskeletal disorders cost an estimated $45β$54 billion every year in compensation, lost wages, and lost productivity. (Institute of Medicine, via CDC)
- The highest-risk manual transfers include moving a person from toilet to chair, chair to bed, and bathtub to chair β exactly the moves a patient lift is designed to take over. (OSHA)
- Decades of data show most patient-handling injuries are preventable when mechanical lifts are used consistently. (WHO)
Paying for Your Patient Lift: Cash Pay, HSA/FSA & Insurance Reimbursement
We're a cash-pay retailer β we keep our prices low by not billing insurance directly. You purchase your lift outright, and we provide a detailed, itemized paid invoice that includes the product's HCPCS billing code so you can submit it to your insurance provider for possible reimbursement.
- Private insurance: Many plans reimburse part or all of the cost of a patient lift when it's prescribed as medically necessary. Submit your paid invoice along with your physician's prescription to your insurer.
- HSA & FSA: Patient lifts are generally eligible expenses, so you can pay with pre-tax health spending dollars.
- Medicare & Medicaid: These programs generally reimburse durable medical equipment only when it's purchased through an enrolled supplier, so cash purchases typically won't qualify for Medicare or Medicaid reimbursement. If maximizing those benefits is your priority, check with your plan before buying.
Coverage and reimbursement rules vary by plan, so confirm the details with your provider before purchasing.
Every lift in this collection is selected to support comfortable, dependable patient handling for families, home-care providers, and care facilities β protecting both the people being cared for and the people doing the caring.
